A Merchant and his Donkey - English short story


On a beautiful spring morning, a trader loads his donkey with sacks of salt to go to the market to sell the salt. The merchant and his donkey are walking along. They hadn't gone far when they were on their way to a river.

Unfortunately, the donkey slipped and fell into the river.

As it heads up the bank of the river, it is noted that the bags of salt on its back have become lighter.

The merchant could do nothing but return home, where he loaded his donkey with more bags of salt. When they reach the smooth bank again, this time the donkey deliberately falls into the river. In this way, the salt was wasted again.

The dealer now knew the trick of the donkey. He wanted to teach the animal a lesson. When he returned home with the donkey for the second time, the merchant loaded bags of sponges on his back.

The duo left for the third time on their journey to the market. When he reached the river, the donkey fell very cleverly back into the water. But now, instead of getting the load lighter, it was getting heavier.

The dealer laughed at the donkey and said, "Your idiot, your trick has been discovered. You should know that you cannot mock someone too much. '
