Change yourself and not the world
Long ago, people lived happily under the rule of a king. The people of the kingdom were very happy because they lived a very prosperous life with an abundance of wealth and no accidents.
The king once decided to visit places of historical interest and visit places of pilgrimage in distant places. He decided to travel on foot to associate with his people. People from far away places were very happy to talk to their king. They were proud that their king had a heart.
After a few weeks of traveling, the king returned to the palace.
He was very happy to have visited many places of pilgrimage and to see his people lead a prosperous life. However, he regretted it.
He had excruciating pain in his feet because it was his first long walk. He also complained to his ministers that the roads were not comfortable and that they were very stony. However, he could not bear the pain. Then He says that he was very concerned about the people walking on these roads, because it would be painful for them too!
Change yourself and not the world
In considering all this, he ordered his servants to cover the roads of the whole country with leather so that the people of his kingdom could walk comfortably.
The minister's king was surprised to hear his order, as it would mean slaughtering thousands of cows to get enough leather. And that would also cost a lot of money.
Finally, a wise man came from the ministry to the king and said he had a different idea. The king asks what the alternative is. The minister said, "Instead of covering the roads with leather, why not just cut a piece of leather into the correct shape to cover your feet?"
The king was very surprised by his proposal and praised the minister's wisdom. He ordered a pair of leather shoes for himself and asked all his countrymen to wear them too.
Moral of the short story:
Instead of trying to change the world, we should try to change ourselves.
